A SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT for the USA football team wouldn’t usually be big news in Ireland but when a footballer from Cork makes the cut, it’s definitely worthy of a mention.
Shane O’Neill plays at the back and as a defensive midfielder for the Colorado Rapids in the MLS and Jurgen Klinsmann has picked him in his squad to face Chile in a friendly on Wednesday.
O’Neill has yet to make his debut for USA but has been capped at U20 and U23 level. He joined the Colorado Rapids youth team in 2009 and made his senior debut in 2012. Hopefully O’Neill is more successful for USA than American Joe Lapira was for the Ireland team.
