Modified training for Simon Zebo as concussion concerns continue along protocols

The wing will have to prove his fitness by Thursday to be considered for a starting role against the Wallabies.

IRELAND WING SIMON Zebo will have to wait until Thursday to get a full training session under his belt as he seeks selection for the final November Test against Australia on Saturday.

Zebo limped out of the 21 – 9 loss to New Zealand with cramp, according to Ireland’s medical team, and was replaced by scrum-half Kieran Marmion for the closing minutes.

The squad did not train in Carton House yesterday, doing only light recovery and a walking-pace work after a particularly intense clash with the world champions. Zebo was kitted out on the field today, the final session before the team is announced owing to tomorrow’s rest  day, but was not asked to do the full session.

“Simon was ‘managed training’ today,” reported forwards coach Simon Easterby.

“Got through some work, and he like some other players in the group is being managed to get themselves hopefully right on Thursday when we can select the team based on who’s available.”

With Robbie Henshaw and Jonathan Sexton already ruled out, the concussion concerns – CJ Stander and Rob Kearney – are still undergoing the return to play protocols and remain unable to take a full part in training until given the all-clear from a doctor.

Keith Earls and Ultan Dillane missed out on selection for the second Test against the All Blacks as they carried niggles through the training week, but both trained in Ireland’s Maynooth base today.
