SIX GAMES INTO this SSE Airtricity League season, things haven’t really gone according to plan so far for Sligo Rovers.
A promising squad under a young manager, some saw Owen Heary’s side as an outside bet for the title. However, having taken just two points from four home games at the Showgrounds, the Bit O’ Red are currently propping up the Premier Division table.
And the club’s travails are perhaps summed up by a call for volunteers which has appeared on their website. Rovers obviously haven’t been hitting the target often enough, and now they need someone to pick up the pieces.
So if you’re from the Sligo area and fancy yourself as a golden retriever when it comes to gathering up wayward footballs, get in touch with the club and offer your services.
“Sligo Rovers require a volunteer on match nights to help retrieve balls which are lost over the stands,” the ad reads. “On a match night several balls will be cleared out of the ground which it is important the club get back.”
The successful candidate will possess a keen eye for over-ambitious long-range efforts and be willing to work weekends. Own transport may also be beneficial in extreme cases.
