Snowed off: Munster's trip to Aironi falls foul of the weather

Munster’s RaboDirect Pro12 match against Aironi in Italy this weekend has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

HEAVY SNOWFALL AND sub-zero temperatures in northern Italy have forced the postponement of Sunday’s RaboDirect Pro12 match between Aironi and Munster.

Nighttime temperatures in Viadana have hit lows of -12°C this week, leaving staff at the Stadio Zaffanella unable to clear the pitch of snow which fell last weekend.

With further snowfall predicted over the next few days and especially at the weekend, the decision was taken this morning to postpone the game.

Tickets for Sunday’s match will remain valid for the rescheduled game, though no date has been announced yet. Fans who bought tickets online and now require a refund should contact www.bookingshow.com.

The adverse weather conditions and postponement will also have a knock-on effect on Munster’s plans for the coming week. Tony McGahan and his squad were due to fly out to Italy on Friday ahead of the Aironi game, and remain there for a week before playing Benetton Treviso in the Stadio di Monigo on 18 February.
