SOUTHAMPTON ARE INVESTIGATING claims goalkeeper Artur Boruc threw a bottle and swore at supporters during their home defeat to Tottenham.
The incident is alleged to have happened after Clint Dempsey scored Spurs’ second goal just before half-time on Sunday, in what was the former Celtic shot-stopper’s home debut.
Reports have suggested the south coast club have already determined Boruc’s guilt after reviewing video evidence, but offered no validation to such claims in a statement released today.
The statement read: “Southampton Football Club can confirm that it is investigating allegations of an incident involving Artur Boruc that occurred towards the end of the first half during Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.
“The club takes such allegations extremely seriously and will deal with the matter in the appropriate manner.”
The 32-year-old Poland international signed on a free transfer from Fiorentina in August to provide competition for Kelvin Davis and Paulo Gazzaniga, with the 2-1 loss on Sunday his second appearance for the promoted side.
