Dutch gold as Van Persie and the Netherlands rout Spain

The Group B opener was a lively affair.

ANOTHER WORLD CUP game, another controversial penalty decision.

After Xavi’s brilliant through ball 22 minutes into the Group B opener between Spain and the Netherlands, Diego Costa was adjudged to have been fouled by Stefan de Vrij.

However, on replay, it looked more like the Spaniard stood on the Dutch defender than anything else.

In fairness to the referee, it was a difficult decision and you can see why Italian Nicola Rizzoli gave it.

However, the Dutch fought back and Robin van Persie scored this brilliant diving header to make it 1-1 at the break.
