The best thing we shared

Pope Francis got another GAA present, this time a Eglish GAC jersey when parish priest Fr. Michael Toner visited the Vatican recently.

On the record

It’s a bit ridiculous really. It’s very unfair on the girls. It’s unfair on both teams to have players playing two matches but particularly on the girls (involved in both). It’s not the first time and if both teams are to get further, it won’t be the last time either. At this level, no matter how much you convince yourself that you can, you can’t give both 100 per cent commitment on the same day, it’s just not possible.”

Cork’s Ciara O’Sullivan condemned another dual fixtures clash next weekend, with the Rebels set for big championship games in both football and camogie.

Where we were today

The fixture list

  • Wexford host Kilkenny in the final of the Leinster U21 hurling championship tomorrow, with throw-in at Wexford Park at 7.30pm (live on TG4).
  • Elsewhere, Cork face off against Limerick in the Munster intermediate final, with a 7.30pm start in  Páirc Uí Rinn.
  • Third seed Andy Murray faces Vasek Pospisil on centre court at 1pm in the men’s  quarter-finals at Wimbledon, after which Novak Djokovic takes on Marin Cilic.
  • Tour de France continues with the fifth stage, a 189.5 km route from Arras Communauté Urbaine to Amiens Métropole.

Showbiz, baby!

After crashing out of Wimbledon, Caroline Wozniacki was ridiculously asked if she had a message for injured ex-fiancé Rory McIlroy.

Her non-answer was perfect.
