The talk today is that Fulham boss Martin Jol is open to the idea of offloading Damien Duff. Utter madness.

WE BEGIN TODAY with news that one of Ireland’s most reliable servants could soon be swapping one club in the bottom half of the Premier League table for another.

Fulham manager Martin Jol is in the market for a new goalscorer as the possibility of selling off either or both Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson grows, and the Dutchman has taken a fancy to West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie.

The 30-year-old is said to be valued at around about €6m so Jol wants to offer Chris Baird and Ireland international Damien Duff as makeweights.

A switch to the Baggies would see him link up former manager at Blackburn Rovers and Fulham, Roy Hodgson, as well as Shane Long and Simon Cox.

Duffer has enjoyed his spell at Fulham since moving from Newcastle United in 2009, however, and whether he is keen on leaving London for the west midlands is another thing.

Hot on the heels of agreeing a fee with Manchester City for defender Nedum Onuoha, QPR boss Mark Hughes looks to have bolstered his backline further with news that Nigerian international Taye Taiwo has arrived on loan from AC Milan.

The 26-year-old was a regular in Marseille’s starting XI for six seasons and won Ligue 1 in 2010 before a switch to Italy last summer, which proved disastrous.

Taiwo has made just four appearances for the Rossoneri to-date and a player who can play at centre-half or full-back is a decent addition for the Rs.

Manchester United have spotted that highly-rated Crystal Palace defender Nathaniel Clyne has turned down a new contract with the Eagles and are lining up a deal to sign the England U21 international.

As the player is under 24, Palace are due compensation if he leaves when his contract is up in the summer, so rather than risk letting a tribunal decide the amount, they are believed to be willing to cash in on him now.

Meanwhile, both United and City remain interested in Nicolas Gaitan of Benfica even though the attacking midfielder’s release clause is set at €45m.

Roman Pavlyuchenko is nearing a move back to his homeland after reportedly meeting with Rubin Kazan officials to enter discussions. The Russian has never quite hit it off at White Hart Lane and Spurs would be willing to allow him to leave if the price was right.

And, finally, the news stateside is that LA Galaxy are keen to offer another Premier League veteran the Hollywood lifestyle. After agreeing to a new two-year deal for David Beckham, the MLS outfit have expressed an interest in Frank Lampard.
