The Morning Score: Thursday

A new boss in Wexford, a new name for one famous stadium and the same old John Daly.

1. #GAA Wexford have appointed one of the heroes of ’96, Liam Dunne, as their new senior manager.

Dunne’s Oulart the Ballagh side shocked Kilkenny county champions James Stephens last Sunday in a provincial showdown.

2. #EURO2012 Ireland’s European Championship hopefuls will train at around 5pm (Irish time) at  A Le Coq Arena in Tallinn after they arrived safe and sound last night.

Giovanni Trapattoni will then give us some update on the state of the squiad’s health in a press conference, though there are no major concerns at the moment. Jon Walters is expected to be named in the side alongside Robbie Keane.

Miguel Delaney will be there for us. Here’s his first dispatch from the city last night.

3. #GOLF John Daly has made headlines for the wrong reasons again this morning.

The veteran American walked off the course at the Australian Open midway through his first round.

It started on the short par-4 10th when Daly tried to drive the green. He thought his ball was in the front bunker, but after blasting out to about 4 feet, he realized he had hit a practice ball from the adjacent range. That’s when he was told his ball was in the back bunker, and with a penalty shot and a three-putt, he wound up with a triple bogey.

Daly was annoyed, then hit his second on the par-5 11th into the water. Then he hit another into the lake. And another. And another. The final tally was seven balls, and it might have been more except that he had none left in his bag.

Daly turned over his scorecard to Hunter Mahan and Craig Parry and walked off the course. Daly later said on Twitter, “when u run out of balls u run out of balls. yes, I shook my player’s partners hands & signed my card w/rules official.”

4. #WHAT’S IN A NAME? Newcastle United have renamed St James’ Park after the company owned by owner Mike Ashley’s company.

The famous ground will now be known as the Sports Direct Arena, after a move that is sure to cause controversy on Tynseide.

5. #ROW Kevin Cassidy is expected to release a statement today in which, according to Des Cahill on RTÉ radio, he will insist he was just being honest in the book that saw him axed from the Donegal squad yesterday.

6. #EXIT Nemanja Vidic is next out the Old Trafford door as Alex Ferguson eyes a deal with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid according to the Daily Mail.
