WATERFORD’S THOMAS BARR finished strong to take second place in his 400m hurdles heat at the Olympic Games. in a season’s best time of 48.93.
The 24-year-old finished maintained an excellent pace throughout the lap and sustained the pressure on leader Keisuke Nozawa (48.62 seconds) into the final bend and managed to overtake Eric Cray and Jaheel Hyde on the straight.
Barr was 10th fastest overall, Jamaica’s Annsert Whyte making himself the fastest man on the day with a time of 48.37 seconds.
The semi-finals will go to block late tomorrow night.
