TIGER WOODS HAS clinched the WGC Cadillac Championships in Florida after finishing two shots ahead of fellow American Steve Stricker.
The World Number Two was imperious over the four days of competition and shot 27 birdies over 72 holes.
The win confirms his status as the best player in the hunting pack behind Rory McIlroy and signals the 37-year-old’s intent to chase the US Masters jacket at Augusta next month.
Woods shot a round of 71 to finish on -19 and had such a comfortable lead going down the stretch that he allowed himself to ease off and sign for two bogeys in his closing three holes.
Round of the day went to Australia’s Adam Scott, who shot 64 to get to -14 and a tie for joint third.
Scott was joined at -14 by Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson and Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland. The Portrush golfer partnered Woods in the third round but could only shoot a level par 72 at the Blue Monster course in Doral, Florida.
Keegan Bradley was alone in seventh after finishing -12 but there were encouraging signs for McIlroy as he shot a seven under round of 65 to finish on -10.
His eighth placing was shared with Justin Rose, Michael Thompson and Peter Hanson.
Padraig Harrington finished on even par for the tournament after signing off with a 72 earlier today.
