AS IT HAPPENED

As it happened: Tottenham v Liverpool, Premier League

We follow all the action from the day’s early kick-off as Jurgen Klopp’s side traveled to White Hart Lane.

Good morning one and all and welcome along to our live coverage of the day’s early kick-off.

It’s been a mixed start to the season for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool and they face another stern test today as they visit White Hart Lane to face a Tottenham side who have collected four points from their opening two games.

Kick-off is at 12.30pm and the team news is coming your way.

The team sheets are in! Coutinho starts for Liverpool with Can and Origi, who were both doubts, not included in Klopp’s starting XI. Sturridge is left on the bench once again.

And this is how Tottenham will line-up:

The scene is set at WHL, which way do you see this one going?

The teams are out on what is a glorious afternoon in North London.

Kick-off! We’re underway at the Lane with Tottenham attacking from right to left as we look.

What a save! Mane pounces to steal possession in a dangerous position and when Firmino cuts inside, he squares it for Coutinho who has the goal at his mercy. But Vorm somehow manages to keep it out from close range with a superb save with his feet.

Fast start to proceedings here. Tottenham applying all the early pressure but Liverpool should really been in the lead.

Tottenham have started really brightly — and are enjoying all the possession thus far. Dele Alli is the latest to try his luck but he can’t quite execute a difficult half-volley from just outside the area.

At the other end, Liverpool break with pace. Mane drives at the defence and fires a low ball across the box but Coutinho is flagged offside.

Liverpool are so dangerous when they spring forward. The movement, and pace, of Mane, Coutinho and Firminho is causing the Tottenham defence all sorts of problems.

Mane is set free and shows his pace to get away from the defence but Vorm is quickly off his line and he times his tackle to perfection.

Liverpool enjoying a good spell of possession here. Vorm is called into action again as he sprints off his line to deny Mane, who had been set clear by Lallana.

Vorm has been busy. Liverpool work with well again and Mane chips a delightful ball over the top for Coutinho, who controls and fires low towards the target from a tight angle. The Spurs goalkeeper is there, however, and makes a comfortable stop in the end.

Tottenham forced into an early change as Kyle Walker hobbles off. Vincent Janssen comes on in his place.

Penalty appeals from the home fans, and Janssen asks the question too. Joel Matip blatantly blocks the substitute from chasing the ball but the referee waves play on.

Sadio Mane follows Danny Rose into the book for a challenge under the nose of the referee.

Moments after being booked, Mane goes in recklessly on Rose and can consider himself very fortunate to get away with that.

Penalty! Firmino charges into the area and goes down under the challenge of Lamela. That’s incredibly harsh.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool (Milner)

And Milner tucks it away into the corner.

Liverpool strike just before the break — but you have to feel Bobby Madley got that one wrong. There was very little contact and, if anything, Firmino clipped his own heel. Three minutes of injury time.

Half-time! Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool

Milner’s penalty separates the sides at half-time and while it was a contentious decision, you can’t deny that Liverpool deserve the lead. The forward trio of Mane, Firmino and Coutinho have cut Tottenham’s defence apart and Vorm has been forced to come to the rescue on more than one occasion.

That was a very entertaining half of football. Liverpool have been a joy to watch and Sadio Mane is proving to be a really shrewd acquisition by Klopp. His pace and power is terrifying and Tottenham simply haven’t had any answers thus far.

We’re back underway!

You feel we’ll see a lot more from Tottenham in terms of attacking intent in this second half but it’s Liverpool have started on the front foot. Spurs back off and Wijnaldum decides to try his luck from range, his strike arrowing just wide of the target.

A bit better from the hosts. Christian Eriksen collects the loose ball and looks to test Mignolet but his effort dribbles wide.

Close! Liverpool very nearly double their lead. Matip — on his Premier League debut — rises highest and flicks it goalwards but his header skims the top of the bar and over.

Oh that’s lovely from Liverpool! Wijnaldum breaks down the left and plays a perfectly weighted ball through for Lallana. The England international cuts it back for Mane to apply a simple finish but the flag is up on the far side.

That was so, so tight. It’s Lallana who was flagged by the linesman and replays show he may have just been off. That was a superb move from the visitors.

Worrying times for Mauricio Pochettino.

Liverpool’s work-rate and tenacity in the tackle is so impressive. They’re breaking with pace, purpose and precision and already the understanding between Mane and the other forwards appears to be there.

Tottenham searching for a way back into this game — and they’re just starting to ask a couple of questions. Mignolet has been called into action twice in as many minutes, most recently tipping Alderweireld’s header around the post.

A closer look at that offside call a few minutes ago. So, so tight but Lallana really should have got the benefit of the doubt on that occasion.

Liverpool make their first change of the day with Origi replacing Coutinho. 22 minutes remaining at White Hart Lane.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool (Rose)

And Spurs are level! Dier is released down the right and his cross falls to Rose at the back post. The left-back takes it down and slots it low into the corner past the advancing Mignolet.

Now we’ve got a very interesting final 15 minutes in store. Klopp is very animated on the touchline, urging his players to just calm down and regain their composure.

End to end now as both sides push for a winner. Daniel Sturridge is still warming up on the touchline.

Milner is having a stormer at left-back. He’s so solid defensively and has just made another great sliding challenge to stop Dier in his tracks.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane has gone off to be replaced by Joshua Onomah.

Alderweireld has been a threat from set-pieces but he should have done better there. Heads over from six yards out.

Danny Rose draws Spurs level.

It was another quiet afternoon for the striker.

Sturridge is on for Mane for the final three minutes. Is there a winner to come in this one?

Close! Wijnaldum sees his shot blocked by Alderweireld and it very nearly catches Vorm out but the goalkeeper does well to readjust and gather.

That’s a great tackle! Firmino has Lallana running outside him and it appears he times the pass to perfection but Alderweireld gets back to make the last-ditch challenge.

Harry Winks is on for the final few seconds, replacing Eriksen.

Full-time! Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool

Liverpool will really feel they should have wrapped up the points before Tottenham eventually clicked into gear. In the end, a point apiece as Rose’s equaliser cancelled out Milner’s first-half penalty.

Thanks for joining us this afternoon. Here is the report from White Hart Lane, where Liverpool feel they’ve missed a real opportunity to earn three points.
