JURGEN KLINSMANN HAS come under fire for leaving US legend Landon Donovan out of the team’s World Cup squad, and his attempts to rationalise the decision aren’t being received much better.
The German manager of the US football team recently lambasted US sport for indulging older stars in an interview with the New York Times, arguing:
“This always happens in America. Kobe Bryant, for example — why does he get a two-year contract extension for $50 million? Because of what he is going to do in the next two years for the Lakers? Of course not. Of course not. He gets it because of what he has done before. It makes no sense. Why do you pay for what has already happened?”
American sports pundit Michael Wilbon was one of those less than impressed with Klinsmann’s response, subsequently telling the coach to “get out of America”.
