MICKEY HARTE SAYS Kerry look like a side ‘who’ll be around for a long time this summer’ after the Kingdom’s win over his Red Hand outfit in Killarney last night.
Jack O’Connor’s side ran out impressive 1-16 to 1-6 winners in the qualifier clash at Fitzgerald Stadium that was marked by petty fouls and playacting.
After a rash of yellow cards, substitute Brian McGuigan ultimately saw red for striking Declan O’Sullivan.
“I supose a good result for us last week would have been if they hammered Westmeath,” Harte reflected afterwards. “They didn’t do that, they struggled to get by and it was reminsicent of 2009 when they appeared not to be going so well against a team that they should beat comfortably.
“[But] We felt we still could have got something out of the game. I suppsoe when we got our goal and didn’t defend it that was the end of the game for us. And I suppose we couldn’t afford the sending off. And I have to say, I would have thought it was a rather harsh sending off. But I don’t think it would have made a difference ultimately, they were better on the day, had greater hunger for the game, and played like a team that will around for a long time this summer.”
