Girvan Dempsey gets two-year deal as Leinster backs coach while Murphy goes full-time with Ireland

The former fullback moves into Leo Cullen’s set up after three years as Academy manager.

FORMER FULLBACK GIRVAN Dempsey has today been confirmed as Leinster’s backs coach in a full-time capacity.

Dempsey had been Academy Manager in the eastern province for the past three years, but the departure of Matt O’Connor during the summer forced a reshuffle in Clonskeagh.

Like head coach Leo Cullen, Dempsey was originally appointed on an interim basis but has now signed a contract to keep him in the role until the end of the 2016/17 season.

The appointment means that Leinster must now fill the vacancy of academy manager.

There are other vacancies which may require filling before the season’s out in Clonskeagh. Richie Murphy (pictured to Cullen’s left above) has accepted an offer to be Ireland’s full-time skills and kicking coach and will no longer divide his time with the provincial setup. Team manager Guy Easterby has taken on extra duties as Head of Rugby Operations.
