Kevin Doyle issues positive injury update after undergoing plastic surgery

The Ireland striker was stretchered off during last night’s win against Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium.

KEVIN DOYLE EXPECTS to return to training shortly despite suffering a dreadful injury last night at the Aviva Stadium.

Doyle was stretchered off after 27 minutes of the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 win against Switzerland in a friendly.

The Colorado Rapids striker, who was being capped for the first time since October 2014, was injured after a challenge from Swiss player Tim Klose.

The incident left Doyle with a horrendous gash on the inside of his left shin, which he later tweeted a picture of (not for the squeamish).

The graphic nature of the image didn’t appear to bode well for the 32-year-old, but he has taken to Twitter again this morning to issue a positive update.

“Thanks to the surgeons at the Mater Hospital,” said Doyle. “Leg looks brand new. No serious damage. Back jogging in a few weeks.”
