It’s a massive night in Newbridge as Mickey Harte and Kieran McGeeney take their sides into action and bid to secure a place in Round 4 of the All-Ireland senior football championship.

The referee for tonight’s match in St Conleth’s Park is Joe McQuillan from Cavan.

How have both teams reached this stage in the season? Well, Kildare started off in Leinster with a win over Offaly before crashing to defeat against Dublin in the provincial semi-final. Yet they got their season back on track with a qualifier win at home to Louth last week with Tomas O’Connor grabbing a crucial goal.

Tyrone lost out at the first hurdle in Ballybofey in Ulster against Donegal. Yet they were too strong for Offaly in the opening round of the qualifiers and then shook off the determined challenge of Roscommon last time out to win by two points.

Tyrone 1-3 Kildare 0-2: 10 mins – Goal for Tyrone from Mattie Donnelly!

Massive boost for Tyrone there as they cut open the Kildare defence and Mattie Donnelly finished with aplomb to the net.

Niall Kelly had hooked over a point for Kildare moments before that Tyrone goal with his left-foot shot whistling just over the crossbar. And Kelly looked to have curled over another point there but the umpires adjudged it to have been wide. That was a contentious decision.

Kildare attack and recycle the ball well against a hard-working Tyrone defence but the move culminates with Daryl Flynn hoofing the ball high and wide. Tyrone have steadied their challenge ego gain a grip on this game. They lead by four points after 15 minutes.
