THE CHICAGO BULLS crashed to a surprise loss to the lowly Dallas Mavericks, while the Golden State Warriors returned to winning ways.

After upstaging reigning champions the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Bulls went down 107-82 to the Mavs last night.

The Warriors bounced back from their loss to the Houston Rockets with a 138-109 victory against the Phoenix Suns.

It was another sorry outing for the slumping Atlanta Hawks, who were crushed by the Toronto Raptors 128-84.

Veteran Dwyane Wade stayed behind in Chicago after their win over the Cavaliers. Jimmy Butler tried his best with 26 points but the Bulls lost for the third time in five games. Wesley Matthews led the Mavs by posting 26 points, 20 of those coming in the second half.

Golden State’s winning streak was ended by the Rockets last time out. Determined to bounce back, star trio Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant combined for a big victory. Curry put up 31 points, Thompson scored 26 and Durant added 20.

It was another day and another defeat for the Hawks. Saturday’s 44-point demolition at the hands of the Raptors condemned the Hawks to a sixth consecutive defeat.

Gordon Hayward is an underrated star on an underrated Utah Jazz team, but after turning in his third straight game of 30-plus points in the 105-98 win against the Denver Nuggets, people may need to start paying attention. With at least 31 points in each of his last three games, Hayward has now recorded 20-plus points in 12 of the 15 games he has suited up for during the regular season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves outlasted the Charlotte Hornets 125-100 in overtime, the Boston Celtics survived to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 107-106, the Miami Heat lost 99-92 to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Memphis Grizzlies trumped the Los Angeles Lakers 103-100 and the Milwaukee Bucks were 112-103 winners over the Brooklyn Nets.

Two of the top players in the NBA — Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook — will square off against each other when the New Orleans Pelicans face the Oklahoma City Thunder today.
