Tomás O Sé apologises for Dublin 'scumbag' claim

The Kerry legend backtracked on social media for his remarks on national radio.

KERRY LEGEND TOMÁS Ó Sé has apologised for claiming that Jim Gavin’s Dublin footballers have a “scumbag” nature that helps them get over the winning line.

Ó Sé made the remark on RTÉ’s Gaelic football championship radio preview on Sunday while examining the strengths of the reigning All-Ireland champions.

“This Dublin team is mentally tough,” the five-time All-Ireland winner said.

“They can win dirty, they can win when they play poorly.

“They have a mixture of great players. They have a mixture of, for the want of a better word, a scumbag when they need somebody on the team to do the nasty things.”

Ó Sé later took to Twitter to apologise for his choice of words.

The Nemo Rangers clubman also heaped praise on Gavin’s charges, claiming that they are the greatest team to emerge from the capital.

“There is talk that they are the best team ever. I wouldn’t agree with that yet but I do think they are the best Dublin team of all time,” Ó Sé added.

“We’re sick of them (in Kerry) because they’re beating us constantly. Since 2011, we’ve struggled to beat them

“It’s not only that they have the great players, they have a system of play and everyone is buying into that system.

“They have good management and they are strong all over the field. They have everything you want to make a great team and it will be very, very hard to beat them again this year.”
