MARIA MCCAMBRIDGE WON the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon in Dublin as 37,000 women laced up their runners in awful conditions to compete in the event.
Olympian McCambridge, who finished only seconds behind the winner of last year’s Dublin marathon, completed the 10km course in a time of 34 minutes and 3 seconds.
Ann-Marie Glynn was second across the finish line in 34 minutes and 42 seconds while Catherina McKiernan secured third place in a time of 34 minutes and 46 seconds.
Sinéad Kane won the visually impaired category in a time of 45 minutes and 45 seconds.
The sodden Dublin City streets and strong winds made for some of the worst ever conditions in the 33 years of the race, the biggest such ‘female-only’ race of its kind.
The Cork City Marathon was also held today and was won by Corkman Cillian O’Leary in a time of two hours, 30 minutes and 41 seconds
