THERE WAS LATE controversy on Friday night as Athlone Town plundered a point against Mervue United in Fahy’s Field.

Trailing 2-1, Athlone were handed a lifeline deep into stoppage time when referee Ray Matthews awarded Roddy Collins’ men this dubious penalty, which Philip Gorman converted.
