WEXFORD’S BEN BROSNAN, who was chosen yesterday as one of the GAA football All-Star nominees, has backed Jason Ryan’s decision to stay on as Wexford manager.
Speaking to GAA.ie, he described Ryan staying as “a massive, massive boost” and said that if he had left the job, it “could have set us back two or three years”.
The player, who was also announced yesterday as the GAA GPA Player of the Month for May, added:
“His man management skills, I have never seen anything like it. He is absolutely brilliant with every player no matter if you are in bad form or playing well, he is the same with everyone.”
Brosnan also narrowly lost out to Kerry’s Colm Cooper in the battle to be top scorer in the Championship, and said his excellent form was purely down to “confidence”.
And the player admitted he had been watching Cooper closely following Wexford’s Championship exit, in the hope that he would fail to overtake his points tally.
“I was hanging in there for a long time. I said on Twitter that I was praying for rain. It didn’t come, but fair play to him (Cooper), he was absolutely brilliant against Mayo and that kind of pushed him on towards it then.”
Brosnan scored 0-32 points in all, and is a strong contender to make the final All-Star team, which is announced on 15 October.
