REIGNING CHAMPIONS TYRONE moved into another EirGrid Ulster U21 football final as they saw off Donegal by four points in their semi-final clash tonight at Celtic Park.
The Red Hands overcame a first-half deficit to finish strongly against a Donegal team that ended the game with 13 men.
Tyrone made the perfect start to lead 0-2 to 0-0 early on thanks to points from Mark Kavanagh and Lee Brennan. But Donegal quickly drew level and they dominated the rest of the half to go in front 0-5 to 0-2 after 25 minutes.
Late first-half points from Sean Fox and Cathal McShane gave Tyrone hope yet Stephen McBrearty ensured that Donegal enjoyed a 0-6 to 0-4 interval advantage.
Tyrone quickly wiped that out at the start of the second-half and Ryan Coleman’s 37th minute goal pushed them ahead 1-6 to 0-6.
Donegal rallied to net themselves to hit a goal of their own when Conor Doherty drilled to the net as they went in front 1-7 to 1-6.
However Tyrone then took over and reeled off six points without reply as attacker Lee Brennan came to the fore.
McBrearty pulled a point back for Donegal but further Tyrone points left them holding a commanding 1-14 to 1-8 lead. A McBrearty goal from the penalty spot provided Donegal with some late hope but Colm Byrne fired over the insurance point to clinch success for Tyrone.
