Con Hogan pulls out of race for GAA presidency

Tipperary man decides to withdraw from fight for top Association job.

TIPPERARY MAN CON HOGAN has withdrawn from the GAA’s presidential race.

Hogan says he expects other candidates to secure more support and because the incumbent, Christy Cooney, is from Munster also.

He said, in a statement, that he had undertaken to make a decision on whether to continue with his candidacy well before Congress, which takes place in Mullingar from 17-19 April. He added:

The presence of candidates with a stronger provincial and geographic support base than my own coupled with the fact that the current President is from Munster would make it very difficult for me to achieve the necessary support and accordingly I have decided not to contest the election.

“I would like to wish the remaining candidates well; whoever is successful will make an excellent president and can be assured of my total support in my remaining period as a Trustee of the Association and into the future,” he said.
