McManus on THAT Cavanagh tackle - 'You move on and you can laugh at it now'

The Monaghan and Tyrone player are teammates on the Irish squad that faces Australia next Saturday night in the International Rules.

MONAGHAN’S CONOR MCMANUS has buried the hatchet with Tyrone’s Sean Cavanagh, revealing they now laugh off the infamous tackle in last August’s All-Ireland quarter-final.

The pair are teammates on the Irish International Rules squad that face Australia in next Saturday’s second test in Croke Park.

But they were in opposition when Cavanagh cynically dragged down McManus as Tyrone defeated Monaghan by 0-14 to 0-12 in their last eight clash in August in Croke Park.

“There has been plenty of digs and craic”, revealed McManus. “But that is done and dusted now and all you can do is have a bit of craic about it.

“There is no point getting hung up on it or anything like that. It is over, it happened  you move on and you can laugh at it now.”

McManus managed to avoid an identical attempt at a tackle by an Australian player in the first quarter of last Saturday’s first test win in Kingspan Breffni Park and joked ‘It is only a pity that I didn’t get away the last time’.

And the Monaghan player reckons that supporters will be drawn to attend next Saturday’s second test at Croke Park.

“I think that fourth quarter will get people interested. I know when I was young and I was watching the game, I was always mad to come and watch the top players in the country and it is a great opportunity for fans to come and see that and maybe meet a few of the players afterwards.

“Croke  Park have marketed it well this week and I expect to see a good turnout of clubs and, in particular, children on Saturday night.
