Counties brace themselves for qualifier battles

Dates, times and venues have been confirmed for the eight first round games in this year’s All-Ireland SFC qualifiers.

GAA officials have released the fixture details for the opening round of the 2012 All-Ireland SFC qualifiers with six games set to take place on Saturday week, June 30th, and two ties down for decision the following day on July 1st.

London will face Antrim in the opening clash on June 30th in Ruislip at 1pm with Wicklow entertaining Waterford in Aughrim at 2.30pm. There will be a 7pm throw-in for four matches that evening as Westmeath face Louth in Mullingar, Tipperary welcome Offaly to Semple Stadium, Laois play Carlow in Portlaoise while Longford take on Derry in Pearse Park.

On Sunday July 1st, Armagh will travel to Dr Hyde Park for a clash with Roscommon while Fermanagh are at home to Cavan in Brewster Park with both ties commencing at 2.30pm.

Eleven counties are featuring in the first round of the qualifiers for the second successive year with Waterford, Carlow, Derry, Roscommon and Armagh the newcomers to this stage of the competition.

The winners of the eight games will advance to round two on July 14th where they will be in opposition to the eight losers of this year’s provincial semi-finals – Kerry, Limerick, Galway, Mayo/Leitrim, Tyrone/Donegal, Monaghan/Down, Meath/Kildare and Dublin/Wexford.

Saturday June 30th: London v Antrim, Rusilip, 1pm; Wicklow v Waterford, Aughrim, 2.30pm; Westmeath v Louth, Cusack Park, Mullingar, 7pm; Tipperary v Offaly, Semple Stadium, Thurles, 7pm; Laois v Carlow, O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, 7pm; Longford v Derry, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, 7pm.

Sunday July 1st: Roscommon v Armagh, Dr Hyde Park, 2.30pm; Fermanagh v Cavan, Brewster Park, 2.30pm.
