FORMER REPUBLIC OF Ireland U21 international Daniel Kearns has signed for Linfield on a two-year deal.

The Belfast native joins the Windsor Park side following his departure from Limerick FC earlier this summer.

The Limerick Leader reported last month that four players, including Kearns, left the club just before the opening of the transfer window.

He previously joined Dundalk in 2010 and also linked up with Sligo in the summer of 2016 after spending a season with Glenavon before switching to Limerick last November.

Kearns spent three years in the youth set-up at West Ham United and had spells with Peterborough United, York City, Rotherham United, Chesterfield and Carlisle United.

Speaking to the club website about the move, a delighted Kearns said:

“I’m delighted to have got the signing and the medical completed and I’m really looking forward to a good pre season with the lads and then kicking on.

“I know most of the players from playing against them and they’re a good bunch of lads, so I just can’t wait to get started.

“It’s a good move for me to come home to Belfast and I’m really looking forward to working with David Healy who was a top striker in his day.

“My aim is to enjoy my football and I want to score goals, win football matches and win trophies and I believe I can do that here.

“I know there’s a lot of pressure on the players at this club, as the demands and the expectations are so great but the pressure will bring out the best of me and I’m used to handling pressure at my previous clubs.”

Linfield manager David Healy added:

“I’m delighted to be able to advise our supporters that Daniel Kearns has signed a 2 year contract with the club and he’s come through his medical, so it’s just the international clearance formalities that have to be completed, to conclude the deal.

“Daniel has good pedigree and he’s an experienced forward player, having played for a number of full time clubs.

“We are well aware of his ability and he will give us really good options up front, so I’m really excited about getting started to work with him.

“He’s bright and clever and we want to get him scoring goals to get us challenging again.

“He’s really looking forward to getting started with us and he really impressed us at training on Thursday and while playing as a Trialist in Saturday’s game at Dundela.

“I’m delighted to welcome Daniel to Linfield and I know our supporters will make him feel welcome here too.”
