Darren Clarke caught speeding; poses for pictures with cops

Recently-crowned British Open champion tells critics of his much-publicised celebrations to “get a life”.

RECENTLY-CROWNED BRITISH Open champion Darren Clarke was let off with a warning last Monday, after he was caught driving his Ferrari slightly over the speed limit in Portrush.

Joanne McElgunn reports in The Sun (print edition) that the golfer was reprimanded on his way to Killarney and agreed to pose for pictures after he received a caution. It was also reported that Clarke reacted angrily to criticism of his drinking following the golfer’s Open Championshp victory, telling critics to “get a life”.

He suggested that people should be concerned about more important matters, such as the recent shootings in Norway, telling reporters:

“It’s fantastic and I’m very fortunate to win but you have 93 people that got murdered in Norway [the death toll is now thought to be 76].”

Clarke begins his Irish Open campaign today, alongside fellow major winners including Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington.
