Michael Carrick’s side have undergone a midfield rebuild this summer, having seen the influential Casemiro depart before Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury.
United last month signed Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans and Chelsea’s Andrey Santos, and PA understands a deal was reached with Brighton for Baleba on Friday night.
The terms of the deal are not yet known for a player the Red Devils approached Albion about last summer, although it is reported to be a £65 million (€75.87 million) fee with £5 million (€5.83 million) in add-ons.
