EITHER PHIL TAYLOR or Michael Van Gerwen will tonight be crowned the world darts champion at London’s Ally Pally.
It will be van Gerwen’s first world championship final and Taylor’s 18th, amazingly.
The event will be watched by millions of Sky subscribers and is as much a part of Christmas as turkey and Wham for many. But since the tournament began, as always in mid-December, a violent civil war was waged in the TheScore.ie’s messy corner of the office.
Is darts actually a sport? Some amongst us say the men on the oche produce stunning feats of skill under intense pressure while others insist ‘if you don’t have to change your shoes to play, it’s not a sport’.
