IT WAS A DAY to remember for Prince Rudi and Ian McCarthy, as they triumphed in the big race at the Galway Festival.

The 20-1 outsider edged out Shanpallas and Give Me A Break into second and third respectively in the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle.

And following the victory, McCarthy paid tribute to the 12-year-old gelding’s trainer Stephen Nolan.

“You need a tough stayer for this race,” he told reporters. “Stephen said to just get a lead and it turned into a test of stamina.

“He’s a horse with an awful lot of problems, so it’s credit to him (Nolan), the way he’s handled the horse and chosen his races.”
