Wanderer returns as former striker Dean Holdsworth buys Bolton for €9.6 million

The 47-year-old is head of a consortium that hopes to save the club.

A CONSORTIUM LED by former striker Dean Holdsworth is set to take control of Bolton Wanderers after having a €9.6 million (£7.5m) offer accepted by current owner Eddie Davies.

If the deal is approved by the Football League, it will save the club from administration.

Holdsworth is at the head of the Sports Shield Group and told The Bolton News:

“It’s a great day and I’m absolutely honoured to be a part of this club again.

“More importantly it lets the people who have been at this club through thick and thin look forward to the future.

“I can’t put into words what a tough process this has been.

“We shouldn’t have been talking about saving a football club, but to do it makes this a very special thing for us.”

The club owe nearly €3m to the UK’s Revenue & Customs but were granted a two-week adjournment of their case in the High Court today to allow a deal to be completed with Holdsworth.
