DEREK MCGRATH HAS been officially appointed as the new Waterford senior hurling manager.
McGrath, who succeeds Michael Ryan as Déise boss, has been handed a three-year term which will run until the end of 2016 season.
A star-studded management team has been assembled with Waterford hurling hero Dan Shanahan, last year’s Tipperary All-Ireland minor boss William Maher, and Frank Flannery joining the backroom set-up.
McGrath has experience as the manager of De La Salle’s All-Ireland winning colleges sides in 2007 and 2008, while he also managed the De La Salle club to win last year’s Waterford senior hurling title.
Cork native Flannery has previously coached the Cork IT Fitzgibbon Cup team and the Cork minor hurlers while earlier this year he guided Cork club Milford to the All-Ireland senior camogie title.
