Eoin Kenny - son of Stephen - receives first Northern Ireland senior call-up

20-year-old Portsmouth striker in squad for upcoming Nations League games.

EOIN KENNY HAS been called up to the Northern Ireland senior squad for the first time, ahead of their upcoming Uefa Nations League fixtures.

Kenny – son of former Republic of Ireland and current St Patrick’s Athletic manager Stephen – is among two newcomers named in Michael O’Neill’s squad.

Born in Derry, the Portsmouth striker represented Northern Ireland at U18 and U21 level. He won 11 caps, scored once and captained the U21s.

Kenny (20) joined Championship side Portsmouth during the summer after an impressive spell with Dundalk in the League of Ireland Men’s Premier Division.

He scored 22 goals in 94 appearances for the Lilywhites, and also spent time at Wexford on loan. Now a regular in the Pompey first-team match day squad, he has made two senior appearances this season.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dermot Mee is the other first-time call-up in the Northern Ireland squad for their remaining two fixtures in Nations League B Group 2.

O’Neill’s side – who are top of the group – face Ukraine at home and Hungary away later this month.
