THE FIRST FOAL of British wonderhorse Frankel has been born at Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary.
The superstar colt, who retired in 2012 after an unbeaten 14-race career, is estimated to have earned £15 million during his first year at stud — more than five times his total prize money.
His first son was born to Coolmore’s dual Group-winning mare Chrysanthemum on Saturday evening.
“The stud reported that the foal is a handsome colt with a good head, a white blaze and great presence,” Juddmonte Farms said in a statement today.
General manager Philip Mitchell said: “From the reports that I have received Frankel’s first foal is everything we could have hoped for.
“These are very exciting times for everyone who has supported the horse and we much look forward to the rest of his first crop of foals.”
With an estimated worth of £100 million, Frankel commands a fee of up to £125,000 and covered over 130 mares in his first season at stud.
Coolmore’s as-yet unnamed colt, and the rest of Frankel’s offspring, are expected to make their racing debuts in the summer of 2016.
