A FROZEN PITCH has led to the postponement of tonight’s Munster hurling league encounter between Limerick and Cork.
The game was fixed for Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale and the pitch is already frozen with no prospect of a thaw. It was due to be played originally on Sunday 7 January in Mallow but was called off before throw-in due to fog at the Cork venue.
A third attempt will now be made to play the group game at the pitch in Rathkeale on Sunday 21 January at 2pm.
Waterford await the winners in the final, that game was due to be played next Sunday, but must now be held on an alternative date.
Tickets for next Sunday’s game are sold out, with all tickets purchased for tonight’s fixture valid for the refixture. Anyone who purchased a ticket for tonight (Wednesday) has been contacted via e-mail (Universe) and if ticket holders cannot attend next Sunday, they can reply via that Universe e-mail seeking a refund.
Elsewhere today in Munster, two games in the Corn Uí Mhuirí senior A schools football competition were postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.
The meeting of St Brendan’s Killarney against Clonakilty CC in Cill na Martra was postponed, as was Coláiste na Sceilge against Patrician Academy Mallow.
The two quarter-final ties that did go ahead saw Tralee CBS defeat Abbey CBS, 2-13 to 1-5, at the UL 4G pitch, while Mercy Mounthawk Tralee saw off St Francis College Rochestown, by 3-12 to 3-6.
