GALWAY ARE PLANNING on appointing a new senior football manager from within the county, according to county board chairman Noel Treacy.

Treacy was speaking on Galway Bay FM following the announcement of Alan Mulholland’s departure his morning. Mulholland stepped down after a reasonably successful three-year spell in charge of the Tribesmen.

According to Treacy, Galway have the “talent” and “experience” within the county to appoint a Galway man to replace outgoing manager.

“We have the culture in Galway and the traditional value system in Galway football that makes it imminently suitable for a Galway person based in the county to manage our team,” he said.

“I would hope to see a Galway person in charge because I don’t think it’s good for the county to be going outside the county, though we did it before with great success with John O’Mahony.”

Prior to the appointment of Mulholland, Galway footballers had two consecutive outside managers in charge – Joe Kernan (2010) and Tomás Ó Flaharta (2011).
