FOLLOWING THE RETIREMENT of Brendan Cummins last winter, his deputy Darren Gleeson stepped into his place and enjoyed a fantastic campaign as Tipperary’s number one.
At 33-years-old, Gleeson looks set to win his first Allstar after six years as the Premier County’s back up goalkeeper. The Sunday Game’s Donal Óg Cusack, who knows a thing or two about goalkeeping, said Gleeson “gave the greatest display of tactical puckouts ever seen” in the All-Ireland semi-final against Cork.
He faces competition from Eoin Murphy and Alan Nolan, both of whom have enjoyed fine seasons when they were promoted as first-choice goalkeepers.
