Baraclough: Contract talk on hold until after cup celebrations
Sligo Rovers manager is, like a lot of his players, out of contract following yesterday’s dramatic cup win.

IAN BARACLOUGH’S FUTURE as Sligo manager won’t be decided until the newly-crowned cup champions are finished partying.

Baraclough guided the Bit O’Red to a dramatic win in the FAI Cup Final yesterday but now, like most of his players, he is out of contract.

Reports last week linked the 42-year-old with a return to Notts County where he had two separate spells as a player.

Speaking after the 3-2 win against Drogheda United, Baraclough said talks on a new deal will have to wait.

“We’ve had discussions but this week hasn’t been the time to have discussions.

We’ll get the game out of the way, we’ll get the celebrations out of the way and then we’ll sit down next week and come to where both parties are in agreement.

When the town quietens down and becomes sober and people can understand what each other are saying, we’ll sit down and talk about it properly.

Yesterday’s final was hailed as instant classic as Sligo came from behind in a frantic finale to win their third cup in four seasons.

Ryan Brennan looked to have forced extra-time when he equalised for 10-man Drogheda in the 92nd minute but Anthony Elding announced himself as the hero with the dramatic winner a minute later.

“It’s a great feeling to win any trophy but to win the FAI Cup in the way we did, the manner we did, at the Aviva,” a delighted Baraclough said.

“I’ve been told it’s possibly one of the greatest FAI Cup finals. Fortunately we’re on the right end of it.”
