Donegal star Lacey continues comeback from injury

The defender is still on track for a return for the Ulster championship clash with Tyrone.

DONEGAL STAR KARL Lacey is still on track for a return from injury in time for their Ulster championship showdown against Tyrone on Sunday May 26th.

Lacey has not lined out for his county since last September’s All-Ireland final triumph over Mayo.

The 2012 Footballer Of The Year underwent  hip surgery before Christmas and missed Donegal’s entire league campaign this spring.

Lacey has been in action for his club Four Masters recently and lined out in a recent challenge game against Galway.

Manager Jim McGuinness revealed they will continue to monitor the progress of their defensive lynchpin in the build-up to the eagerly-awaited clash in Ballybofey.

“Karl Lacey is on the road to recovery so every session is going to be important for him. It is important not to overcook him as well in terms of his recovery.

“He has a done a lot of work on his own and with the physio’s and I don’t know how many running sessions he had done before he was reintegrated.

“He played for the club last weekend, he will playing for the club this weekend and training with us again this weekend and he is making very good progress. He is a very good player obviously, his touch is not far away.

“Even his decision making and his ability to use the ball, you would say to yourself he would need three or four weeks to get that up to the level but I suppose he has been fit for the last couple of months. It is just that he has not been able to push really hard. Hopefully that will stand to him and we will see how that goes over the next two or three weeks.”
