THE OPEL GAA/GPA Players of the Month for September have been announced this morning with Kerry’s Kieran Donaghy winning the football award and Kilkenny attacker Richie Power claiming the hurling honour.
Donaghy excelled in Kerry’s All-Ireland final success against Donegal as he struck 1-2 with his second-half goal crucial to their eventual victory.
Power was a vital goalscoring figure for Kilkenny during the month of September as he notched 1-1 in the All-Ireland final replay win over Tipperary while he fired home 2-1 in the drawn match against the Premier County.
Speaking about the pair, GAA president Liam O’Neill said: “Kieran Donaghy’s role in Kerry’s All-Ireland series push was nothing short of spectacular, powering their semi-final push before delivering in style – not for the first time – in a winning final outing.
“Richie Power was hugely instrumental in Kilkenny’s push for another Liam MacCarthy Cup win and was in many ways their go to man over two finals. I congratulate both and underline the fact that this acknowledgement comes from their peers.”
