Ladies football follows the theme of Meath against the Dubs

Here’s all you need to know about the weekend’s Ladies football action.

LIKE THE MEN’S edition, this year’s ladies Gaelic football Leinster final will be between Dublin and Meath after they overcame Laois and Westmeath respectively yesterday.

Dublin had a 2-11 to 1-10 win against the O’Moore County, Amy Ring and Amy McGuinness with the goals, while Sinéad Goldrick impressed. Laois’s green flag came from Mary Kirwan, who scored 1-3.

Despite being down to 13 players at one stage in the second half, Meath beat their neighbours by 2-7 to 0-8. Mary Sheridan got both of the Royal County’s goals, while Katie O’Brien accounted for four of their points. Maud Annie Foley top-scored for Westmeath with two points.

Donegal will meet Monaghan in the Ulster final after they recorded a 3-16 to 1-6 win over Tyrone, Geraldine McLoughlin and Roisín Curran their main scorers.

On Friday night, All-Ireland champions Cork kept themselves on course for a ninth successive Munster title as they enjoyed a fairly routine 1-19 to 0-11 victory over Clare at Doneraile.

While Clare started well, they could not get past Cork goalkeeper Elaine Harte and a penalty from Valerie Mulcahy – who finished with 1-8 – had Cork settled by the end of the first quarter.

By half-time it was 1-10 to 0-5, and with Nollaig Cleary, Juliet Murphy and Orlagh Farmer all getting on the scoresheet in the second half the Rebels assured themselves of a straightforward win. Niamh O’Dea and Ailish Considine were best for Clare, who now face Kerry to determine who will meet Cork in the provincial decider.

In the Aisling McGing Championship final yesterday evening, a hat-trick of goals from Nicole Owens helped Dublin to a 3-9 to 0-13 win against Kerry, Hannah Tyrrell putting in an outstanding performance to take the player of the game award.
