'I laugh when Louis van Gaal yells at me'

The Manchester United striker claims he welcomes a tough approach.

ANTHONY MARTIAL ADMITS he laughs when he is shouted at by Louis van Gaal because he believes a hard approach will help him improve.

The 20-year-old joined Manchester United from Monaco last summer in a deal that could be worth up to £61.5 million.

Martial has scored 12 goals in his debut season in England but reveals that Van Gaal continues to demand more from him.

He yells at me,” Martial told RTL. “It makes me laugh because I know it’s for my own good.”

The France international also reveals that his former coach at Monaco, Leonardo Jardim, was equally as tough.

“He was very hard with me, that’s what I needed,” he said.

Martial made his senior France debut last September and the forward reveals that a warning from Didier Deschamps played a key role in his development.

[He said] what are you waiting with the qualities you have? It would be a huge waste,” said the United striker.

“He came to see his friends. I was there, I said hello and that’s what he told to me.

“When somebody says something like that, it makes you aware of certain things, and I continued to work, and it paid off.”
