LEWIS HAMILTON HAS been forced into an embarrassing backdown after criticising his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button on Twitter.
Having signed on with Mercedes for the next three seasons, Hamilton was left unimpressed when told that Button had ‘unfollowed’ him on the social networking site.
“Just noticed @jensonbutton unfollowed, thats a shame. After 3 years as teammates, I thought we respected one another but clearly he doesn’t,” Hamilton tweeted on Monday.
“Funny thing is, we are STILL teammates! All good tho, I plan on giving this team & fans all I got til I cross the finish line in brazil!!!”
However, Hamilton was forced to apologise to his team-mate after discovering the news he had received was not accurate to begin with.
“My bad, just found out Jenson never followed me. Don’t blame him! Need to be on Twitter more!” Hamilton’s gaffe continues a poor weekend for British sports people on Twitter after Chelsea defender Ashley Cole reacted strongly to an allegation by the Football Association that he lied when giving evidence in John Terry’s recent trial for racial discrimination.
And, it was a poor weekend all round for Hamilton who finished fifth at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka leaving him 42 points adrift of Fernando Alonso in the drivers’ championship.
