Liam McHale joins Cavan backroom team as player performance coach

The former Mayo star will link up with Terry Hyland’s side.

FORMER MAYO FOOTBALLER Liam McHale has joined Terry Hyland’s management team as a ‘player performance coach’.

McHale, who has been heavily linked with coaching roles in both Mayo and Westmeath in recent times, joins the Cavan backroom contingent along with Kevin Downes and Eoin Maguire.

He looked set to form part of Kevin McStay’s managerial ticket with the Mayo senior footballers last month, but the partnership of Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes was eventually chosen to lead the county in 2015.

Last week, McHale was forced to publicly state that he had not agreed to come on board with Peter Leahy as coach, following Leahy’s unsuccessful bid to become Westmeath manager. Leahy put McHale’s name forward as part of his coaching team, without the Mayo man ever confirming he would join the set-up.

McHale is currently a coach with Roscommon kingpins St. Brigid’s, where he will continue his involvement until the end of the current campaign.
