Poll: What National Hurling League format would you like to see?

Limerick boss John Allen has described the current format as ‘elitist and marginalising’.

IT’S A SUBJECT of hot debate.

What format should be employed in the National hurling league?

The issue was brought into sharp focus after Dublin’s narrow 1-16 to 1-15 win over Limerick in the Division 1B final in Thurles on Saturday night.

The result means Limerick missed out on the promotion spot to Division 1A.

For the fourth successive year they will be forced to ply their trade in the second tier of league hurling next spring and their manager John Allen is less than enamoured with the current league format.

“I probably said too much over the past week. But, yes, certainly I think it’s just totally elitist and marginalising.

“It’s doing nothing for the promotion or development of hurling in the counties like Wexford, Offaly and Antrim where it’s like you’re just playing second fiddle.”

Victorious Dublin boss Anthony Daly had sympathy for Limerick.

“They should have been up two years ago. They were up, but they revamped the situation.

“Look, realistically there should be at least eight teams in Division One, that’s the reality of it. You’re depriving good lads of big days.

“Last Sunday we played in front of five or six hundred and all the attention was on three massive Division 1A games which is what lads want.”

Format

So the question we’re asking this morning is what National hurling league format would you prefer?
