IT HAS BEEN a good day for Irish athletics as European bronze medalist Mark English has joined John Travers in making a final at the European Indoor Championships in Prague.
Travers booked his place in the 1500m final tomorrow after qualifying as the fastest loser from his heat while English’s second place finish saw him qualify automatically for the 800m final.
English ran a time of 1:50.54 and was leading for the majority of the race before being beaten at the line by GB’s Guy Learmonth.
Another Irishman, Declan Murray, was competing in a different 800m heat and despite running a faster time than English at 1:48.09, he came sixth and missed out on a place in the showpiece race.
It could be a very successful hour for Irish athletics tomorrow afternoon as English’s final gets underway at 14.30 while Travers’ race starts at 15.30.
