McGoldrick hoping for Ireland's call after netting again for Ipswich

The 28-year-old striker has scored in each of the Championship club’s last two games.

DAVID McGOLDRICK IS hopeful that he can make the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016 warm-up friendlies against Netherlands and Belarus.

The Ipswich Town striker scored the winning goal in his side’s 1-0 victory over Derby County on Saturday, slotting home from the penalty spot after fellow Ireland international Richard Keogh felled Teddy Bishop in the box.

It was McGoldrick’s second goal in as many games, after he scored in last week’s 3-2 win over Milton Keynes Dons, and brings his tally for the season to four goals in 24 Championship appearances.

Having missed much of the season due to a hamstring tear sustained in December 2015, the 28-year-old is aiming to continue his scoring habit in the next campaign and hopes he has given Ireland boss Martin O’Neill food for thought ahead of the upcoming friendlies.

“It was nice to get a goal last week, again this week, and with them both being wins that makes it even better so hopefully I can carry that on to next season,” McGoldrick told Ipswich Town’s official website.

I’m not 100% yet (after my injury) but I’m getting there slowly. I don’t know when the Ireland squad gets picked but I’m going to try and stay fit until I find out so hopefully I’ll be in it.”

McGoldrick made his debut for the Boys in Green in a 4-1 friendly victory over the United States in November 2014 and also featured in last June’s 0-0 friendly draw against England.
