Ireland romped to victory in their first Test of this year’s International Rules Series, largely thanks to the team’s AFL experience, says its manager.
Anthony Tohill’s tourists ran out comfortable 80-36 winners against a pedestrian looking Australia side in the first Test of the 2011 International Rules Series in Melbourne.
And the manager reckons the inclusion of the likes of footy exponents Tommy Walsh, Pearce Hanley, Tadhg Kennelly, Zac Tuohy and Colm Begley was key.
“Huge. I’ve been saying that last year and I’ve been saying it again this year. You saw the performances we got tonight out of our AFL players, they were superb, absolutely superb,” Tohill said.

The Sunday Game pundit insisted a team he knew there a was a big performance coming form his newly-assembled side.
“I probably sensed two or three weeks ago that we were going to be very difficult to beat. You know these things when you’re involved with teams and players,” he said.
“You just get that sense among the group that the lads mean business. They were very focused and determined.”
