Banner boss Micko says it’ll be a Cork v Kerry battle in Munster final

Mick O’Dwyer admits his charges are up against in the provincial championship.

MICK O’DWYER HAS all but conceded defeat for his Clare side in this year’s Munster football championship.

The Banner have to wait until the 16 June to kick a ball in this summer’s competition when they will face the victors of the Limerick versus Cork clash which takes place in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday week.

Speaking on DCUfm, O’Dwyer played down his chances of winning a game in the provincial championship.

“We’ll be playing them [Cork or Limerick] in the next round in Ennis so it looks very much as if Cork will win that side of the draw. I think it’s going to be a Kerry – Cork Munster final,” he said.

However, The Waterville man sees his main duty as senior football manager to be the promotion of Gaelic football in the county.

“The one thing I’d like to do in Clare is generate an interest in Gaelic football. If we can generate a bit of interest in the young people, that will be my job done in Clare.

“The minor team played Kerry in Tralee and were impressive enough. If they stay at it, they won’t be too bad and you can bring them through but of course hurling is the big problem there,” he added.
